Plexiglas – Studio Yellow Style

To bring the children’s attention to the concertina folds of Marta Chilindron’s sculpture Plexiglas we introduced some new materials to our studio area. The children were invited to color folded sheets of acetate and then to create their own sculptures on the light table.

As the children created, stories began to emerge.

Weston – I made a bridge.
Parker – It’s over a river.
Julia – I made a rainbow.
Charlotte looking at the sculpture as a whole – It reminds me of my mommy because of all the different colors.

Parker after mixing the materials on the light table – I’m making an ocean.
Wes found tape and taped one end to the wall and one to the light table. – I made stairs.

What will the children do next?  As they color more acetate will they decide “less is more” as they create on the light table? Or will the thrill be adding as many pieces as possible to Plexiglas – Studio Yellow style?
