Bug On the Wall

by Blake Rowe, Peter and Ellen Allard sing it on a CD. Adapted by Mark Weltner
This one is in my book; it has pictures that are velcro’d onto other pictures. So the first page has a bug velcro’d onto a picture of a wall (and the word WALL written underneath), the second page has a pie velcro’d onto a picture of a plate (word: PLATE), etc. The first time I do this song I only sing the first FOUR pages, so if you are reading this for the first time, understand that your child doesn’t know about the last two pages (“mom” and “bump”), so PLEASE don’t spill the beans! The second time, I add the fifth page, and then the sixth. Anyway, the real fun of this song is switching the pictures, so that we sing (e.g.) there’s a pie on the wall, a bug on a plate, a brain in a cave, etc.

There’s a bug on the wall, bug on the wall,
It’s been there all day hasn’t moved at all,
There’s a bug on the wall — Yuck!

There’s pie on the plate, pie on the plate,
Gonna eat it all up, I just can’t wait
There’s pie on the plate —  Mmm!

There’s a bear in a cave, a bear in a cave,
With great big teeth and its name is Dave
A bear in a cave – Rooooarrr!

There’s a brain in my head, brain in my head,
It helps me remember what my mama said
A brain in my head – Hmmm…

There’s a bump in the night, bump in the night,
Woke me up, gave me a fright
A bump in the night — Oooo!

My mom kissed me, my mom kissed me,
She gave me a hug and a kiss on my cheek.
My mom kissed me — Ssssmack!
