To start the new year, Red and Purple teachers asked to have a combined music class for the first day back, and we joined with Diane’s “Plus Fridays” class in Studio Yellow for this! Here’s what we did:

You Gotta Sing When the Spirit Says Sing – lots of clapping and tapping to this.

Movie Star

4 3 2 1 Shake Exercise (see second one in the link)

Elephant In My Shoe – we had trampolines, rocking chairs, giants shampooing their hair, milkshakes, and bug bites in our shoes!

Big Juice Box (Alfredo) – ask your child what mystery food Alfredo had in his bag (it’s a green vegetable that looks like a tree).

Open Shut Them

Look Out the Window

Touch the Ground

Yoga – a new one: Tai Chi Guy (see photo below), plus the Eve sculpture, and star/mountain, house/moon, waterfall/elephant

I tried a new activity. I separated the children, randomly into to two lines facing each other, then said: “Anyone with no pets in their home, cross” and anyone with no pets would cross to the other side from where they were. We continued this: “Anyone with a pet dog, cross” cat, guinea pig, baby, had waffles for breakfast, went to the bathroom today, etc. The object is not only to have fun and increase listening and response skills, but also for children to notice similarities and differences they have with other children they might not have paid much attention to. I learned this recently in a drama class I took and then when I saw and heard Red children eating lunch and doing this (quite dramatically!): “If you like bananas, raise your hand!” I thought they would like this activity as well.
