Observational Drawing

Together in Studio Red, we are learning about the camera. Last week, we shared prior knowledge, experimented with the tool, and labeled its parts with a shared vocabulary. In these ways, children have extended their individual knowledge of this tool. We see a common group understanding emerging from their play and conversations.

This week we invited the children to draw our studio cameras from observation. This way of drawing is an invitation to look even closer, to discover new details, and ask further questions. Drawing becomes a tool reflecting and projecting -- Reflecting on what learning has taken place and projecting our learning forward.
