“Let’s measure!” Ray

Measuring the face of a boulder.

Measuring the height of the table.

Ray shoots a catapult and the objects flies.

“It can go as high as the table.  Let’s measure!”  Ray

“Let’s see if this is how tall the table is.”  Sevi

“One more block, please.”  Ray

“Okay, one more block.”  Sevi

“You can give it to me and I’ll do it because it was tricky for you.”  Ray

Measuring from the floor to the stuck duck.

Ray catapulted a duck and it got stuck! Caught in the net and there it stayed.

Arya and Vivian first measured the distance with long blocks.  Then they measured the blocks with cubes.

“We are thinking about lining these [cubes] up as long as the blocks to measure how high.”  Vivian

“Can I ring the chime to see if anyone else wants to help us count?”  Arya

Measuring bridges and trolls.

MEASURING BRANCHES with bodies.

MEASURING BODIES WITH CUBES.

A catapult shot the eagle into the air. It reached as high as Beatrice!

 “Measure me!  Measure me!”  Beatrice

Maren, Zaahra, and Beatrice worked together to measure.  They recorded their work on a sign and shared it with the whole group.

“I was sixty-four blocks tall.”  Beatrice

“So she first writed sixty-four, then she did [drew] the cubes, then the bald eagle, then she drew the arrow and we helped her.”  Zaahra

“The arrows are to show you the bald eagle went up.”  Maren

“Why is there a B E?” Charlie

“That’s for bald eagle.”  Beatrice

MEASURING TO RECREATE OUR BUTTERFLY TANK.

“HOW ARE WE MEASURING?”  LYLA

“WE’RE GOING TO COUNT UNIFIX CUBES.” BROOKE

“IT’S THE PATTERN OF THE CATERPILLAR!”  LYLA, using white, orange (substitute for yellow) and black cubes.

“YOU SHOULD HAVE NINETEEN.”  LYLA

“I DO!”  BROOKE

“41 CUBES .”

“16 CUBES.”

Ray and Graeme measure the length and width of the top.

“Like these cubes is a tool.  Unifix cubes can measure things.”  Chester
