We’re Gathering Together

By Mark Weltner. A hello song to start music.

When I first introduce this song, I tell the children to pretend we are gathering up a blanket or a rope (a “Wheels on the Bus” motion in reverse) for the “gathering together” part.

We’re gathering together, we’re gathering together,
We’re gathering together to sing                        Arms outstretched
We’re gathering together, we’re gathering together,
We’re gathering together with our friends       Link forefingers together

Someone’s giggling, tee hee hee                       Finger to lips
Someone’s happy, me me me                            Tap chest
Someone’s tapping their knee knee knee        Tap knees
Someone’s counting, one…two…three…WHEE!
Count on fingers slowly, then clap them together and move them up and out like a fountain or volcano and roll onto our backs and back up again

Repeat first part.
