Witnessing the changes

Just as materials and explorations are continually changing within Studio Yellow, exhibits both within the museum and outside in the sculpture park change throughout the year.

In preparation for deCordova’s biennial show, the current exhibits in the museum are being de-installed. Given our work around Sheila Pepe’s “Hot Mess Formalism” we were fortunate to receive an invitation to actually watch this process happen. We previewed this with the children prior to our visit, asking them what they thought we may see.

While we wondered and hoped that Sheila Pepe would be present, Rachael informed us that she would not be on site. Nevertheless we were eager to see this de-installation in action - when we arrived the process was already underway. We quietly slipped into a front row space and watched, wide-eyed and full of questions and noticings.

Along with this curiosity within the museum, there’s been much chatter about the new sculpture being installed in the park.

I saw they’re building a new sculpture when I came to school. We have to go see it.

And so we did…

What is this sculpture?

Is it finished?

What is it made out of?
What are they going to put in the museum?

We're looking forward to finding the answers to these and many other questions as we continue to explore our ever so rich environment.
