That’s not a cheese stick…

Imagination is endless in Antoinette Portis’s “Not a Box” and “Not a Stick” that we have shared with the children. Objects that bear an uncanny resemblance to a stick and a box, with a little imagination actually become a rocket ship, a house, a conductor’s baton and a burning building.

Clearly nothing was lost on the children as they added their own versions during snack immediately after story time!

That's not a cheese stick, it's a rainbow.
That's not a cheese stick, it's a flag.
That's not a veggie stick, it's a pencil. (Avery)
That's not a veggie stick, it's a whistle.
That's not a cheese stick, it's elephant legs. (Parker)
That's not a veggie stick, it's cat's whiskers.
