Studio Red: week 22

Dear Studio Red,

This week we worked together to create a card for Caroline. We saw you all taking time and care to draw such beautiful lines and shapes!   We heard you all thinking about what Caroline might like. We heard you say:

I know that Caroline likes hearts.  Charlie Nicholson

I’m gonna use pink.  I’m drawing a heart.  Ian

That’s the place where she is, the doctor.  Thomas

I know how to draw a cat.  Ian

The whole class is doing a kindness!  Case

Louis, can I help you?  Thomas

I’m ready to glue!  Miles

Are we gonna give the whole entire card to Caroline?  Charlie Nicholson

Look at my heart!  Louis

I’m doing pink cuz she loves pink!  Can we make seconds?  Ruth

I’m making a rainbow.  Jackson

Look at mine!  Ian

Oh, that’s a cute one, Ian!  Miles

ZOOMING INTO OUR WEEK

INDOOR EXPLORE

What happens when we draw and add water?

“Lauri, I’m making something new now.  I’m doing some experimenting.”  TRAVERS

“When I did three colors, it went all the way back to the white.”  LUCA

“I put the pencily thingys and the markery thingys and then I put water on top and it made pink.  I used black, blue, red, and green.”  TRAVERS

What stories do we find in different materials, in different spaces, and with different classmates?

a story of an ant and a disguised castle...

a story of a bunny and a story of a robot that turns into a penguin when it waddles…

a story of a flower that grows from a spiral stem...
a story of electricity...
a story of a triple-decker airplane...

How do our weavings change when they come off the looms?

NATURE WALK

We went on a hunt for y-sticks and flat rocks for our next weaving experiments!

"Look, we can draw Ys in the dirt!"

Lauri shared a book on weaving she found at the library.  In it we saw photographs of how artists have created looms with sticks and rocks.

STORY WORKSHOP

“Hey guys we finished our books, look!”  THOMAS

“It feels like a book.”  IAN

Wait, so what happened?

Luca, remember the parts that you did.  This looks like a water story.  Thomas

Read it again!  Ruth

The end.  I’m showing you my pages.  Ian
