Studio Red: daily do & draw 4/13

Dear Studio Red,

Today we invite you to think with us about rain.  We will be reflecting on rain by reading poetry.  As poets write, they play with words.  They use all sorts of words to convey emotions.  Sometimes the words string together and sound like a story.  Sometimes they only give you a feeling or create an image in your mind.  We invite you to listen to a collection of poetry of the rain in the Daily Invitation.  Then, in our studio do & draw, we invite you to create a tiny book of rain.

DO

How can we create a tiny book?

Follow the steps below to create your own little book.  Remember, you will be drawing in these books, so the color of the paper will change the way your markers or pencils look on the page.  You will need a piece of paper, a pair of scissors, a stapler, and your hands!

1

Fold a piece of paper in half three times.

2

Unfold the paper.  Count eight rectangles.

Fold the paper short edge to short edge.

Cut the paper from the middle of the folded edge to the center point.

Unfold the paper.

Fold the paper in half, long edge to long edge.

Fold the paper into a book shape.

Flatten your book.

Secure the pages.

DRAW

How will you draw as you think about rain?

Now that you have your book, it is time to gather drawing tools!  Once you are ready, listen to us read aloud poetry of the rain.  As you listen to the poems, the words can give you ideas for how you will make marks on the page.  Or you might want to be inspired by rain sounds.  We invite you to draw in your book all about rain.

What do you do when it is raining outside?

How do you like to play?

How does the rain make you feel?
