“Oh! Here is a slug book!” Jane

In small groups we use books to research how to make a slug habitat. We record our thinking in words and in drawings to show how our ideas can come together.

“I know what we can use, the tank that Wendy gave us for the caterpillars!”  LYLA

What will we put inside the tank so that the slugs can live inside our classroom?

“This is really fun! What about celery?”  Sevi

“This is a worm, hmm…I don’t get this book. I’m gonna read this one. Oh! Here is a slug book!” Jane

“They like dirt and lettuce and tomatoes, cuz look a tomato. They need food. They might need a special kind.” Maren

“I’m gonna write dirt. I need a D.” Brooke

“Lettuce! And they eat strawberries!” Ryan

“I found something else: mushroom.  How do you write mushroom? I think it might be poisonous to the slug.”  Chester

“No, he’s eating it. There’s a hole.” Lyla

“Yeah, and he is climbing on it.”  Chester

“They like apples.” Ray

“And water.” Charlotte

“Yes, they do like water.” Ray

“See the sprayer.” Charlotte

“Now, let’s turn the page.”  Ray
