“I’m mixing them in the middle”

Continuing our exploring of watercolors, we noticed the children’s observations of how squeezing drops of Blue and Yellow into their jars of water created different “shades of Green.”

How does this happen?

“Because you stir it!” Madeline P.R.

“That’s because they used different kinds of Blue and different kinds of Yellow.” Spencer

Returning to the children’s thinking, we explored using Blue and Yellow once again.  This time the children created their mixing using brushes and watercolor paper.

How would they notice their “shades of Green?”

"I like that green. I'm gonna make that. Look! It maked green. When I do this I'm making colors." Madeline P.R.
"Once it dries, it becomes different colors." Henry
"Look at mine. I maked light green." Milo
"I made my Yellow into Green by putting Blue in it." Maddy
"Mine's making middle Teal." Eleanor
