Around Our Homes – Part 2

What has been happening in your neighborhood this week?  My neighborhood is a quiet one.  Before we had to stay at home, our street was busy with traffic a couple of times a day – rush hour – when everyone was going to work and school but for most of the rest of the day there were only a few cars and trucks going by and a few people walking now and again.  Now it’s mostly quiet all day long. There is a sidewalk across the street, I see many more people walking and biking now.  Often the same people go by every day and we wave and say hello to each other from across the street.  You may know I have two dogs and so we go on a lot of walks too.  We can get to some of Lincoln’s conservation land and trails from our back yard.  This Spring we have been especially interested in the beavers who live in a swampy area back there.  Last year they dammed the stream, the water level rose and one of our neighbors had to knock down the dam as the water was getting close to his house!  The beavers seemed to move away after a while but they came back or became more active again this Spring,– we have seen them a lot.  Listen carefully at the very end and you will hear a beaver smack its tail on the water as a warning to ‘Stay Away!’.   Take a look…..

The video tells a story of the beavers but now I’m going to make a diorama (a 3-D model) to tell the story in a different way.  First I collect some things I might need….

Then I decide how to put them all together, this takes a little time and you may need to try some things in different ways to get what you want.  When I’m ready I can tell my story …and of course, my diorama is not just for one story, I can use it again and again and again, changing my story whenever I want!

More Happenings Around Town

I was taking a walk in my yard one day and I came upon two goats walking down my driveway. They came right up to me and were friendly and gentle.  Then they discovered a tree to nibble on. I heard my neighbor, Frank, calling them “Hey kids get over here!” Frank told me that his goats have been restless staying in their yard and are eager to explore other pastures.  He asked that I let him now if they wonder over again, because he wants to keep them safe. I said I would, then the goats trotted after Frank as he said “Come on kids!” Did you know that baby goats are called kids?

Studio Yellow children have heard about the excitement happening at Sue’s house! A mother rabbit has built a nest and given birth to bunnies right in her yard. Here are some videos taken by Sue of the newborns.  I wonder how many bunnies are inside that nest?

Make Way For Ducklings and Have You Seen My Ducklings can be found on Story Share.  Next we will be adding a story about a black rabbit!
