Transforming a Stick

We're going on a stick hunt!

In the video below, Emily invites you outside to search for a particular kind of stick.  Lauri and Emily know that children from every studio at Lincoln Nursery School enjoy finding sticks outside.  There are sticks of so many shapes and sizes!  Today’s invitation begins with a hunt and leads to messing about with more materials!

How can you transform a stick?

Find materials you have at home to change the way your stick appears.  Remember, the recycling bin is always a great place to look!  Many kinds of markers will make great marks and whether you have watercolors, tempera, acrylic, or beet juice, you can paint your stick!

Which materials will help you attach?  For less mess and less wait time, stick tape and wrap yarn!  For a trickier challenge snip paper and use glue!  You may even find some letters to cut out from an old magazine.

Don’t forget to look outside for natural bits to add beauty.  Above is a small collection of flower petals ready for gluing.

Gather small bits to string or glue.  Beads, pebbles, buttons, caps and tin can tabs all make great options.
