This is a good toy for a baby

Johann is working at the table with clay and wire.

This is a kind of clay toy.

How do you make it?

You make a circle out of clay.
And flatten it with this (metal spoon).
And just stick a wire in.

Johann looks closely at the toy he made and continues to mold the piece of clay.

You scratch the scratchy pieces off and the bumpy pieces with spoons.
The pieces that don't work on it, you just take off.
And the pieces that have scratches, you scratch off and take out this wire and put it in.
There you go!

Lila walks over to the table...

Lila: I had a baby.

I wonder, Johann, if your clay toy is safe for Lila's baby...

It's pokey here. It's not for babies.
My baby is not pokey. She needs a toy.
While the new mom has some time to herself, Johann sits quietly with the clay toy, appearing to add more pieces of clay to the middle piece and both ends of the wire.
You just split it in half and poke the wire in.
This is a good toy for a baby. You can pull it apart and then put it back together...except if it sticks together...and squish it down.
And there you go!
