FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a co-op feasible if both parents work?

YES – most LNS families have dual-working households. Families are asked to participate in their child’s studio (family partner) approximately 6 mornings a year – 4 days/child if the family has 2 or more children at LNS. The family partner schedule is developed in advance with consideration for each family’s preferences and to allow working caregivers to arrange time-off from work. With a little notice, it’s usually not hard to switch a morning if something comes up.

While each family is also assigned a job at the co-op, these are matched with your interest and availability. LNS thrives on families being part of their child’s school experience, so we work to make this doable for everyone.

How many children are enrolled each year?

On average, we enroll 59 children each year, with families representing numerous towns in Metrowest Boston.

Can you tell me more about your teachers?

Our teachers have extensive knowledge and experience in early childhood education. Teachers are informed by developmentally appropriate practice which integrates knowledge of child development and learning, understanding each child’s unique needs and experiences, and awareness of the social and cultural context of their development. We have a long history of teacher retention with the average tenure of LNS faculty being 10+ years.

Can I enroll mid-year?

LNS follows a traditional school year calendar and typically enrolls children to begin in September at the start of the new school year.

Do you offer summer programming?

Our studios change over each summer to welcome deCordova’s Hive Summer Camp (ages 5+). While LNS does not offer its own summer programming in July and August, families draw from the cooperative spirit and share resources to bring attention to the multitude of programs offered locally and in neighboring areas.

How does the rolling admissions process work?

Rolling admissions means that we evaluate applications as they are submitted rather than having a fixed application deadline. Returning families and alumni are given priority admissions. The remaining enrollment spaces are then filled from our application pool. We recommend that interested families apply early for this reason. New families are notified in late December of their enrollment status.
