Burned Cookies

On Tuesday we had a fire drill when some burned cookies in a Studio  set off the fire alarms. It was quite the event. We got to see two firetrucks and a police car, and met firefigher Caleb. At meeting right after this, a “Burned Cookies” song is composed on the spot, followed by lots of discussion, when Wesley says, Play a song that has burned cookies.

Mark starts singing: Burned cookies…

Elliot mentions the fire drill, and Mark adds a firetruck to the song, then Elliot says there was smoke and Mark adds that to the song: Burned cookies make smoke…

Ellie What’s this song called?

I just made it up! (the song continues) There were two firetrucks and a firefighter named…

Jack Firefighter Caleb.

Caleb. He wore a big fire hat…he had a big fire coat…

Jamie And he had gear, sing about gear.

And he had a big tank on his back… Then Mark asks: Do you know what the tank is for?

Wesley The tank is for fire.

Actually the tank is for air so they can breathe if it’s smoky. (Sings:) He puts on a mask and he breathes in clean air so he doesn’t breathe in the smoke, cause that would hurt him…

Stella But you don’t need a firetruck if you burn noodles.

Elliot No no – cookies!

Would you need a firetruck if you burned noodles?

Stella No, cause if you burned noodles it would be in your house. And the firetruck can’t go in your house cause it would break your house. If the fire’s in your house. Or it could just park the firetruck and then –

Wesley Or the firefighters will think you have a fire in your house!

The song continues: or the firefighters would think you have a fire in your house, but you only burned some noodles.

Jack says something about dragons breathing fire.

Jamie But the firetruck can’t come to your house.

Chris They can’t burn people, too.

Why would a firetruck come to your house?

Ellie Because it would be too big.

Josie Or they might fall down your door.

They might break down your door?

Josie Yeah.
